How to Travel Europe Cheap?
My Honest Flixbus Experience

In 2022, I decided to step into the unknown — I started solo traveling across Europe and later the Middle East. For this trip, I already had a bunch of destinations and transport options planned out, but today I want to talk about the one I used the most: Flixbus. Spoiler alert: it’s cheap, easy, and perfect for budget travelers.

Why I Chose Flixbus for My Europe Trip

Again, it’s super cheap compared to other options. What surprised me the most? How easy it actually is. My biggest reason for choosing Flixbus was because I wanted to travel through several neighboring countries — and let’s be real: taking a bus is often easier and cheaper than flying.

I had a total budget back then and tried to stretch it as long as possible (budget travel tip #1). The downside? Sometimes you’re stuck on a long ride. The upside? Most trips are overnight, so you can (try to) sleep. Okay, to be honest, it’s not the best sleep you’ll ever have, but at least it’s worth a shot. Side note: when crossing certain borders, you sometimes have to get off the bus — EVEN IF IT’S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! (Border crossing by bus)

How Flixbus Works (Booking, App & Travel Tips)

You can easily download the Flixbus app via their website or through the App Store/Play Store and book your trip there. Travel tip: I recommend using the website because it shows a map with all destinations and routes. Makes planning way easier, especially if you want to combine multiple countries during your backpacking or budget trip.

What to Expect During a Flixbus Ride

Wifi? Yes, thankfully.

      • Wifi? Check. Scrolling & streaming à volonté.

      • Power outlets? Check. Save your power bank or charge it on the go.

      • Toilet? Check. Luckily.

      • Luggage options? Check. Even bikes, apparently. Not my travel style, but maybe it’s yours?

      • Legroom? Check. No problem for me, I’m not that tall.
